Identify the document owner
Name the person who maintains the handbook, the contact employees use for questions, and the process for publishing updates. Include an effective date and version so outdated copies can be identified.
Write operational instructions before legal terms
Begin with concrete steps employees need: who to contact, where schedules are posted, how to report a time-record problem, and how to raise a workplace concern. Route legal standards and employment terms to counsel.
Keep linked policies consistent
Compare attendance, callout, scheduling, pay, leave, safety, and complaint procedures for conflicting terms. A policy change should be reviewed everywhere the old rule appears.
Control distribution and updates
Decide how employees receive the handbook, how receipt is tracked, and how revised copies replace earlier versions. Have counsel review any acknowledgement language; do not add waiver or agreement language by default.

- Replace every bracketed prompt with an approved workplace procedure.
- Identify topics that differ by location instead of forcing one rule across all locations.
- Set an effective date, document owner, distribution method, and update process.
- Have qualified employment counsel review the complete handbook before distribution.
